The Jorvik Viking Center lets visitors authentically experience the Viking age with its advanced electronics. This York museum first opened to the public in 1984 and underwent refurbishments in 2001 and 2010.

Another York museum worth visiting is the National Railway Museum. The National Railway Museum showcases impressive exhibits on trains, Locomotive and carriages. It is even interactive as visitors are invited to board these transportation models. The National Railway Museum largely caters to children with its demonstrations, steam train rides and story time.

The York Castle Museum, on the other hand, allows visitors to experience life from the Victorian era. The museum features original shop front and items from that part of history. It also boasts of its recreation Kirkgate, a street from the Victorian era. The value for money for this museum is also excellent as one ticket is good for 12 months.

The York Dungeon is one of the most interesting museums in this city, exhibiting the gruesome side of York history. This York museum allows visitors to experience the stories behind Dick Turpin, Guy Fawkes, the ghosts of York, witches and the rampaging Vikings.
