BNSF’s Old And New Locomotives And Equipment?
I was just wondering, why doesnt burlington northern santa fe just sell all of their old locomotives such as the ex. santa fe’s and burlington northern’s and just replace them all at once?
also, when do you think they will have gotten rid of all their EX. Loco’s And replace them with new locomtives 2 years, 3 years, 10 years?
They keep them because they are still good units.They are not as fuel efficient as the new ones are but they still will pull freight.When they get really old and need to be rebuilt they do sell them to leasing companies like HLCX.The reason they don’t replace them all at once is that besides the cost they are only allotted some many new ones a year..EMD and GE can only build them so fast.I would say maybe 10 to 15years till the old ones are gone from the Class 1’s.
